Hi I have a problem and i hope someone can help me. I am a canadian citizen and so is my husband. We were married in Belize in 2002 and am now unfortunately getting a divorce. Problem is I do not have a copy of my wedding certificate. Anyone know who I should talk to to obtain a copy?

With any luck you will have to pick it up in person. Sounds like a good excuse to go to Belize. smile

Be glad you are not getting a divorce in Belize. When I applied for a divorce I went to supreme court, the Judge said - try your marriage again and come back in 3 years if it still isn't working!

You could do what they do in California to eliminate marriages - get a few religious right-wingers together and start a ballot initiative! :-P

Funny marriage is still legal in California- I live here and I was looking for the religious right wingers who eliminated it. Couldn't find them. Found a majority of voters though!

That's right the majority of Californians voted to keep the definition of marriage. I don't think you can label the majority of Californians as Religiuos Right Wingers. Oh by the way Domestic Partners already have the same rights as a married couple under State Law.

Please forgive me for hijacking this thread. blush

Bucky, I just can't stand to listen to any more people say that prop 8 is about 'the definition of marriage'. Being in support of stripping people of a right that they already had, and that has literally ZERO effect on your life whatsoever, tells quite a bit about a person's makeup. Admit it for what it is, a prejudiced attitude against homosexuals and their fight for equality. You can spin it any way you want, but anyone who knows anything knows that prop 8 was not about maintaining Webster's definition of the word 'marriage', so much as it was to show homosexuals that the majority of Californians (and people from other states who supported it) unfortunately still see them as something other than equal to straight people, behind the shield of 'the definition of marriage'. Sad. Not to mention how surprising it is to me to see people standing up and proudly supporting what amounts to prejudiced agenda. Very, very sad. To me it's the same as someone standing on the street corner with a KKK sign. Unbelievable.

“All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will, to be rightful, must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal laws must protect, and to violate would be oppression.”

Sorry to continue the hijack...but I just have to say that I was very surprised and saddened at the Prop 8 result. Made me feel very naive. I thought we had finally "grown up" as a nation, but I see now that we still have a long ways to go.

last week, i saw a comedian note the interesting observation that Prop 8 was particularly voted down by minorities - those who fought for civil liberties not so long ago, now voted to restrict others' civil liberties.

just an observation.

Interesting perspective as Jefferson did quite a bit to ensure your right to own that gun...His proposal for the Virginia Constitution of 1776, "No freeman shall ever be de-barred the use of arms" says quite a bit about his position.

Does anyone else agree that this board is not the place to discuss California politics? Enough of the Prop 8 exchange already!
